Appearing through the swirling dust disturbed by nervous hooves, these wildebeest are a buzzing hive of energy. With the heat, and the haze, this herd seems like one giant living organism, rippling and shimmering along the banks of the river. In a way, the millions of wildebeest that make the annual pilgrimage around the Serengeti do act like like a force of nature, fortifying the land, providing sustenance for apex predators and maintaining the balance of life in the savannah. They are an indicator of a healthy ecosystem, a huge part of what keeps the circle of life thriving, just like the seasonal rains that guide them on their journey.
